AbstractInformation Technology (IT) has changed the modernworkplace because of its development of new knowledge andskills. E-learning is the wholesome incorporation ofinformation and communication technology (ICT) resources, particularly the Internet, into the process of teaching andlearning. Although this is relatively new in Nigeria, someinstitutions are already using it to promote distance education(DE) and lifelong learning. Thus, this study appraises theextent of the use of modern ICT in e-learning in selectsecondary schools in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. It employeddescriptive survey with a tested questionnaire and interviewguide as major instruments for data gathering. The findingsconfirmed that schools in Port Harcourt are just beginning toadopt ICTs as an e-learning method. It also found that theavailable ICT tools are not in use because the teachers are notskilled in computer application. It is therefore recommendedthat the government and school authorities should makeprovision for adequate e-learning facilities in schools and thatboth teachers and students should be encouraged to make useof the materials to enhance their academic performance andlearning experience generally.
