Abstract

This research investigated staff and students' assessment of the Learner Support Services in the National Open University of Nigeria. Descriptive Survey of Expo-facto research design was used. Modified African Council for Distance Education Quality Assurance and Accreditation Agency (ACDE QAAA) tools and instruments for evaluation of quality in open and distance learning including e-learning in African higher education was used to collect data for the research. Samples for the research consisted of 267 staff and 2471 students were randomly selected from 18 NOUN study centres across six geopolitical zones of Nigeria. Descriptive statistic of mean was used for data analyses on research questions while the t-test statistic was used to compare the scores of staff and students. The findings showed that staff rated the quality of learner support services in NOUN as satisfactory on 8 indicators while students rated the quality of learner support services in NOUN as satisfactory on 14 indicators. There was a significant difference between staff and students' ratings of learner support services in NOUN in favour of students. Incisive suggestions were proffered for further improvement in the quality of learner support services in NOUN. A periodic evaluation of the support services was also suggested.
