Social Studies is a specialised discipline by nature, this requires its teachers to use special delivering methods and features, with the upsurge in online learning due to COVID-19 lockdown introduced globally, it has become imperative for Social Studies teaching to be enhanced through online teaching and learning, hence the need for this study. This study was conducted in the three Warri Local Government Areas of Delta State, South South, Nigeria. Two hundred and fifty five (255) participants made up of a hundred and eight (180) upper basic three students and seventy five (75) Social Studies teachers took part in the study. Three research questions guided this study, an online questionnaire designed by the researcher was the instrument used for data collection. Instrument was dully validated and reliability index of 0.82 was established, the instrument was administered online on participants. Data was collected, calculated and analysed with percentages. Findings indicated that online learning has prospects and suitable for Social Studies education. In line with the findings of the study, it was recommended that these prospects be harnessed for the improvement of teaching Social Studies in Nigeria.
