Abstract

ABSTRACT: This paper addresses the peculiar problem of architecture as a course of training not being adaptable as distance learning because of its highly technical and practical nature. This is discussed from the generic problem of inadequate educational opportunities for Nigerian youths and how the e-learning aspect of distance learning can be of help. It is the assertion of this paper that architecture can be successfully adapted as distance learning, just like any other course of training. The latest “Joint Admission and Matriculation Board” (JAMB) applications/admissions data (1996-2005) indicates that higher and higher percentage of qualified candidates seeking admission into Nigerian universities are turned back yearly such that less than 20% of Nigerian youths now have access to adequate education that can give them careers. The paper discusses the tools for adapting architecture as e-learning and finally recommends how this can be achieved from tripartite levels of higher education management. Key words: asynchronous-learning, distance-learning, e-learning, interactive-learning, synchronous-learning.
